Goldilocks and the Three Bears

The Customs House, South Shields | 2025–26

The Customs House was transformed into a big top for this circus-themed take on the classic story. Written by Ray Spencer and Graeme Thomson, the production followed Dame Bella and her nephew Dennis as they fought to save their beloved circus, with Goldilocks and the Three Bears caught up in the chaos.

The production combined live music, magic, comedy, audience interaction and large-scale ensemble numbers, while retaining the warmth, silliness and traditions of a Customs House pantomime.

“The script ... is directed with gusto by Natasha Haws.”
Cultured. North East

“This is a colourful, magical, original interpretation of a classic, well-plotted and -directed.”
British Theatre Guide

The production was also praised for its visual world, with Cultured North East describing it as “the best-looking Customs House panto for many a year”, alongside particular praise for the set, costumes, choreography and music.
